Bonner Announces Application Period for Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program
WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner (R-AL) today announced the opening of the United States Department of Homeland Security’s grant application period for the FY 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The application period for this program begins today, March 3, 2008, and applications will be accepted until Friday, April 4, 2008.
The grants, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Grant Programs Directorate in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration, are provided on a competitive basis to rural, urban, and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. Non-affiliated Emergency Medical Service organizations are also eligible for the grants. The AFG program is intended to help our nation’s firefighters increase their effectiveness in firefighting and emergency response, in addition to improving firefighter health and safety programs.
“The men and women who work for our professional and volunteer fire departments in south Alabama put their lives on the line every day to protect and support their neighbors and communities, and they deserve all the support we can provide,” Bonner said. “I would encourage any department in the First District interested in this grant program to submit an application.”
The program application and additional information can be found at www.firegrantsupport.com.
