WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner (R-AL) today announced the award of funding to Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA).
The grant, totaling $1,265,100, is being made available through USFA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program – Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER). The funding will be used to support the hiring of firefighters as well as to recruit and retain volunteer firefighters.
“I am extremely pleased this funding was approved for Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue” Bonner said. “I applaud DHS for providing this much-needed grant to help expand the number of firefighters available to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public.”
The SAFER program is designed to strengthen the ability of communities to respond to fire and fire related hazards by enhancing their ability to acquire and maintain 24-hour staffing.
