WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner (R-AL) today announced the award of funding for one Escambia County airport and for one Mobile County airport from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration.
The Atmore Municipal Airport will receive $81,849, and the Dauphin Island Airport will receive $150,000. Each grant will enable the airports to purchase property in the airports’ runway protection zone, an area off the end of a runway that is intended to be clear of people and buildings, to prevent gatherings of people or the establishment of buildings.
“I am extremely pleased the FAA has approved this funding for these airports in southwest Alabama,” Bonner said. “As the district with the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan area, improvements to our area airports will provide even greater accessibility to our thriving region.”
