August Zero Job Growth Highlights Need for New Job Creation Strategy PDF Print E-mail

Congressman Jo Bonner statement on Friday's jobs report:

"Just in time for Labor Day, the U.S. Labor Department reported today that the nation experienced zero net job growth during August – the first time since 1945.  The jobless rate remains at 9.1%.  This is the strongest sign yet that President Obama's strategy of stimulus spending and increased government regulations are doing nothing to inspire employer and consumer confidence in the economy.

"The president is scheduled to speak to Congress next Thursday to offer a new jobs plan.  He can propose another version of his failed stimulus, or he can finally get serious about creating jobs and reverse his administration's trend of costly anti-jobs regulations and increased taxes on small business.

"I encourage the president to heed the example of the House of Representatives which has already passed legislation to curb excessive spending, reverse costly regulation on business and restart stalled domestic energy production.  The Senate and the president have so far refused to consider our pro-jobs programs.

"It's not too late Mr. President to work together with the House to get America working again."
