WASHINGTON – Congressman Jo Bonner, R-Alabama, released the following statement in response to President Obama's plan to impose greater restrictions on gun ownership.

"After the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy, America has demanded a comprehensive and effective strategy to end such senseless acts. 

"Unfortunately, the president has chosen to advance a political agenda that in the end will have little impact on stemming gun violence while further eroding the rights of law-abiding citizens.  

"I strongly oppose any attempt to diminish Americans' Second Amendment rights, whether through legislation or executive order."
